The Artist's Journey

Teresa Deible was born and raised in the hills of Ohio and served in the US Navy, working and traveling the world. After the military she returned to college. Teresa was introduced to clay while studying Art History at St. Mary’s College in Maryland where she spent two summers focusing on Raku, a Japanese tradition of working with and firing clay. She eventually moved to New England to study Clinical Mental Health and Art Therapy at Lesley College in Cambridge, MA. Between academic pursuits, she studied ceramics at The DeCordova Museum and Sculpture Park in Lincoln, MA. She currently works out of her home studio. You will find her work in a number of galleries and shops.

Artist's Statement

Clay is an essential part of my daily life; I am either working with it or thinking about it. It is a medium that continues to amaze me, providing me with new ideas and waves of creative energy. I primarily work with slabs of clay, focusing on form and surface treatment.  Functionality plays a major role in my work these days. I enjoy adding texture, experimenting with colorful slips, transfers, and whimsical ideas. I often combine multiple design methods on work to give pieces a sense of depth and interest.
